On Display At The Library
Meriden Business Memorabilia
Antique milk bottles, pharmacy bottles, and advertising items
from Meriden Businesses from over 100 years ago are the
focus of this extended exhibit. On loan courtesy of Wallingford
resident Dan Hackbarth, the showcase gives a glimpse of
Meriden dairies and businesses of yesteryear.
St. Mary School Artwork
Artwork, featuring haiku poetry about the subject of freedom,
is the subject of a month long exhibit at Meriden Public Library
now through the end of March. The illustrated poems were created
by the fifth and sixth grade students at Meriden's St. Mary School.
The exhibit(s) may be viewed during the library's regular hours:
Mon-Wed, 10am-9pm; Thur-Sat, 10am-5pm; and Sunday 1-5pm.

Indoor Swim Program
The Maloney High School pool's schedule follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45PM
Saturdays and Sundays: 12noon-3:45PM
(for daily updates, call 630-4279)
All interested participants must possess a valid 2004
pool pass. A pass costs $5.00 for adults and $1.00
for children ages 17 and under; they are good for
the calendar year in which they are purchased,
including the outdoor public swim at Hubbard Park.
To receive a pass, potential recipients must bring,
in-person, proof of Meriden residency to the office of
Meriden Parks and Recreation, 460 Liberty St, 630-4259

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Meriden Public Library hosts the V.I.T.A. Program which is
sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and provides free
help to taxpayers who can't afford professional assistance
or who have tax questions. Assistance in preparing the CT
state forms is also available. The sessions take place in
the Library's Friends Room, located at the side entrance
every Wednesday 5:30-8:30pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.
V.I.T.A. volunteers alert taxpayers to special credits and
deductions for which they may be eligible. People interested
in attending the program should bring this year's tax package,
wage and earnings statements (W2), interest statements from their
banks, and a copy of their previous year's tax return. You must
also bring a photo I.D. showing your current address and a social
security card or number. Joint returns require both taxpayers present.

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program
This is the final full month left to enjoy this fun sport ...
Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18
and older take place at Lincoln Middle School from 6-9PM.
Registration, including payment of a one-time $20 processing
fee, can be done on any night the program is in session.
Participants are asked to park in the school's rear lot and
use the back entrance during construction. The program
will not run, however, on school holidays and snow days.

Leprechaun Hunt
Children ages 5-12 are invited to search for Patsy the Leprechaun
by using clues given on Meriden's Park and Recreation Activity
Line (630-4279). Clues will be given on the following dates:
=+= 3/2, 3/4, 3/9, 3/11, and 3/16 =+=
Special 'bonus' clues can also be found on City of Meriden TV 14.
The first child to locate Patsy and return him to the Parks and
Recreation office will receive a St. Patrick's Day prize package.

Personal Safety For Women
Meriden Public Library will host a special appearance by
Det. Marsha Anderson, Meriden Police Department 7:00pm, tonight.
Det. Anderson will discuss common sense ways for people to
protect themselves from being the target of violence or abuse.
The audience will learn how to stay aware of their surroundings
and easy techniques to use to defend themselves if ever confronted
by an attacker. The public is invited to attend this free program.

Meriden Reads 2004
Meriden Public Library hosts this citywide reading initiative
which features a discussion of the poetry of American poet
Robert Frost. The first of 3 free sessions is 12noon today
and will be moderated by John Kenney who taught English,
speech and drama at Maloney High School in Meriden for 40 years.
Currently, Kenney teaches at the Castle Craig Adult Learning Center.
You're welcome to attend these free discussions - refreshments served.

2004 St. Patrick's Day Parade
The Meriden AOH presents the 31st Annual event at 2:00pm, today.
The parade begins at the intersection of Parker Avenue and
East Main Street, proceeds on East Main through the downtown
area to West Main Street, and finishes at the intersection of
Bradley Avenue and West Main Street. Groups wishing to march
in this parade are asked to please call (203) 235-6573.

Copies of 'The Thin Pink Line' Signed
Meriden Public Library is hosting a special appearance by
author Lauren Baratz-Logsted at 7:00pm, tonight; she will
autograph any purchased copies that audience members bring
with them to the event. In 'The Thin Pink Line', Lauren
spins a delightfully twisted and witty tale that appeals
to anyone who has ever wanted to be pregnant - or has
suffered any sympathy pains. This is a free event.
