The vehicle access road to Castle Craig is open daily from
10:00am - 4:45pm. The road is closed on inclement weather days.

Public Swim

The 2004 Outdoor Public Swim Program at Hubbard Park's pool
continues. Daily updates on hours of operation can be found
by calling the Recreation Activity Line (203) 630-4279.
All interested participants must possess a valid 2004 pool
pass which is available for purchase at the Parks and Rec
office. Passes cost $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children
ages 17 and under. Potential recipients must come to the office
in-person and bring proof of Meriden residency to receive a pass.
Passes are valid for the calendar year in which they are purchased.

Meriden Skatepark

The Meriden Skatepark, located on the corner of Coe Avenue and
Hamilton Street, is open for the 2004 season (weather permitting):

School Days ... 2:00pm - Dusk
Non-School Days ... 11:00am - Dusk

Summer Playground Program

Functions are at Baldwin Pond, Ceppa Field, and Habershon Park.
Children ages 6-12 are invited to experience fun-filled days of
games, activities, crafts, and field trips. The playgrounds are
open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:00pm. There is no cost except
for field trips. Interested participants can register at the three
sites any time the program is in session. Additional info at

The free runs get underway at 6:30pm at the Platt High School
track and feature a 3/4 mile race for children and a 5k race
for adults. Refreshments and prizes will be available.

'Independence' Celebration At Hubbard Park

Meriden's Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring
an old fashioned 4th of July outing starting at 5:00pm, today.
There will be picnic food for sale along with entertainment
and a spectacular fireworks display. At 5:30pm, 'Undertoe',
takes the stage featuring 60's and 70's hits followed by
'Major Motion' at 7:30pm swinging with Motown's greatest hits.
At approximately 9:00pm, the skies above Castle Craig will be
aglow with fireworks in celebration of our nation's birthday.

Vasalisa! The Russian Cinderella

Professional theater artist Pamella O'Connor offers this special
presentation at Meriden Public Library's John Barry Satellite
Branch at 11:30am, July 7th, and again at 10:30am on July 9th.
This intriguing Russian folktale combines the art forms of
puppetry and storytelling to create an uniquely warm and intimate
theatrical experience. The show is free and open to all children.

'Washboard Slim'

Roots musician/children's librarian Peter Menta presents
an interactive approach to storytelling at Meriden Public
Library's Hanover Satellite Branch at 11:00am, today.
Children from preschool through grades 4 are welcome.
Menta designs story time around a particular theme and
creates original music to accompany the story. He sings
and plays guitar, harmonica, and homemade instruments
and brings those instruments for children to play and
sing with while the story unfolds. The program is free.

Internet 'Hot Spots'

The Meriden Public Library has added a wireless network
to its computer services. This feature allows individuals to
bring in their own laptops and use Internet services here.
In order to connect, you must have an 802.11b wireless adapter
to be compliant. The connecting device must use dynamic DNS
and DHCP settings. There's no need to sign up - nor any fee.
