Castle Craig

Your final opportunity before seasonal closing ...
everyone is welcome to experience some great views
from atop East Peak. The road from Hubbard Park
leading to the infamous castle / local landmark
is accessible between the hours of 10am - 4:45pm.
(note: the road closes at 2:30PM on the 7th and 14th)

Also, you may look around Meriden and the surrounding
area 'under the lights' on Thursday, the 9th, from 7-8:30PM!

However, it will be closed on inclement weather days.

Located at the corner of Coe Avenue and Hamilton Street.
The facility's hours of operation are as follows:

School Days ... 2:00pm - Dusk
Non-School Days ... 10:00am - Dusk

2003-2004 Indoor Swim Program

The Maloney High School pool's schedule follows:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45PM
Saturdays and Sundays: 12noon-3:45PM
(for daily updates, call 630-4279)

All interested participants must possess a valid 2003
pool pass. A pass costs $5.00 for adults and $1.00
for children ages 17 and under; they are good for
the calendar year in which they are purchased.
To receive a pass, potential recipients must bring,
in-person, proof of Meriden residency to the office of
Meriden Parks and Recreation, 460 Liberty St, 630-4259

Tuesdays, October 7, 2003 - April 13, 2004

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18
and older takes place at Lincoln Middle School from 6-9PM.
Registration, including payment of a one-time $20 processing
fee, can be done on any night the program is in session.
Participants are asked to park in the school's rear lot and
use the back entrance during construction. The program
will not run, however, on school holidays and snow days.

Care to explore some of Meriden's most scenic areas?
Join us in the hikes and/or the surprise mystery event:

       Wednesday, 10/8         Mount Higby (end of Preston Avenue)
       Wednesday, 10/15        Hubbard Park (pool parking lot)
       Wednesday, 10/22        Beseck Mountain (Black Pond parking lot)
       Wednesday, 10/29        *Lyman Orchard Corn Maze (restricted)
                               (*= you must have been involved in one of
                                   the other October hikes to participate)

All hikes will begin at 4:00pm and last approximately 1.5-2 hours
Hiking boots or other comfortable footware is strongly recommended.

Mike Reynolds Signs Copies of 'The New Girl'

Meriden Public Library hosts a special appearance by Mike Reynolds,
adjunct professor of communications at Quinnipiac University at 7pm.
He is the author of The New Girl and will autograph copies for the
audience after the presentation. The program is free and you are
invited to attend. It is one in a yearlong series of special events
in celebration of the library's Centennial. Hot beverages are served.

Fall Book Sale

The Friends of Meriden Public Library is holding this event
at the Meriden Public Library. The hours are as follows:

Monday, October 6, 4pm to 8:30pm - Friends of Library Members only
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 7th and 8th, 10am to 8:30pm
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9th thru the 11th, 10am to 4:30pm

Hardcover books will be sold for $1.00 each and paperbacks for 50 cents;
children's books are available for 25 cents to $1.00. Specially priced
sets and collections will be made available at a slightly higher price.
On the last day of the sale, October 11, books will be priced by bag.

Meriden residences are invited to enter this 6th annual challenge.
Judging takes place on Tuesdsay, October 28th. Prizes will be
awarded in the following categories: Most Creative, Scariest Entry,
Best Overall, and new this year, Best Autumn Theme. Only outdoor
entries are considered. There are lots of great prizes, so enter
your house today! Special thanks are extended to the Jessica Short

Meriden Public Library is having a slide presentation called
'Wildlife and Connecticut's Changing Landscape' at 7 this eve.
Tom Guerin, Master wildlife conservationist, is the guest speaker.

All-American Soap Box Derby Family Rally

Pre-registration closes Wednesday the 15th and the registration
fee is $30.00 per contestant/race. Divisions include: stock,
super stock, and masters; progressive 4 wheel swap. The first
race starts at 9:00am for the stock and super stock. The masters
start at noon. The races take place on Curtis Street (by Cass St).
Contestants must provide a car handler and their own z-glass wheels.
