It's 'Fine Free' at Meriden Public Library

People are welcome to return their overdue books and materials
during this period and donate one item of non-perishable food
per title returned instead of paying the normal monetary fine.
Borrowers may visit the circulation desk to take advantage of
the opportunity to clear their records. The food is stored in
a bin in the lobby. All food collected will be delivered to
local food pantries which supply food to needy residents. Most
needed are tuna, dry milk, pasta, tomato items, juices + cereals.

2003-2004 Indoor Swim Program

The Maloney High School pool's schedule follows:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45PM
Saturdays and Sundays: 12noon-3:45PM
(for daily updates, call 630-4279)

Note: In observance of the holiday period,
the pool is not open December 24, 25, and 26!
The pool is open from 12noon to 3:45pm on
December 27th-31st AND January 2nd-4th.

All interested participants must possess a valid 2003
pool pass. A pass costs $5.00 for adults and $1.00
for children ages 17 and under; they are good for
the calendar year in which they are purchased.
(2004 passes are on sale beginning December 15th.)
To receive a pass, potential recipients must bring,
in-person, proof of Meriden residency to the office of
Meriden Parks and Recreation, 460 Liberty St, 630-4259

You're welcome to watch some exciting local competition:

(note: no games during holiday period 12/24 - 1/4)

Tuesdays, December 2003 - April 13, 2004

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18
and older takes place at Lincoln Middle School from 6-9PM.
Registration, including payment of a one-time $20 processing
fee, can be done on any night the program is in session.
Participants are asked to park in the school's rear lot and
use the back entrance during construction. The program
will not run, however, on school holidays and snow days.

Holiday House Decorating Contest

Meriden residences are invited to participate - judging takes place
on December 17th. Prizes are awarded in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Most Traditional', 'Best Display of Electricity',
'Best Display of Figures', 'Best Display of Holiday Spirit',
and 'Judges' Choice'. Winners are incorporated into the Silver
Lights Bus Tour. Submit your address and telephone number to

Santa Letters

Santa Claus is once again responding to Christmas letters!
Children ages 1-12 are invited to send their wish list and
letters through the United States Postal Service mail system
or bring them to the Parks and Recreation Office. To ensure
a response by Christmas, children are asked to forward letters
no later than December 18th. All letters should be addressed
to 'Santa Claus, North Pole' and include the child's full name
and address. Postage is not required. Happy Holidays!

Signing of 'Living La Dolce Vita'

Meriden Public Library hosts a special appearance by
Dr. Raeleen D'Agostino Mautner tonight at 7:00pm.
She is the author of the above title: Bring The Passion,
Laughter and Serenity of Italy Into Your Daily Life,
which emphasizes the most important components of the
Italian approach to joyful living. Dr. Mautner will
autograph any purchased copies of her book that audience
members bring to the event. Everyone is invited to attend.

Christmas In The Village

South Meriden's Main Street will be closed from Webb Street
to Evansville Avenue (detours available) so that you and the
local folks can enjoy this 5th anniversary celebration!

Featured activities take place 2:00-5:30pm and include:
horse and carriage rides, clown and face painting, a parade,
Santa and friends, music, caroling, bon fire, tree lighting,
and other entertainment. Cider, hot chocolate, popcorn,
chestnuts and other goodies are served at the Craft Fair tied
in with the Hanover School and special events and Bazaar at
South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church and New Life
Church. The events are free, however participants are asked
to please bring a canned food for donation. To volunteer ...

2003 Silver Lights Bus Tour

Want to see the very best Meriden has to offer in Christmas
lights and decorations? At 6:30pm tonight, a guided bus tour
of the city's top holiday attractions will leave the Meriden
Senior Center on West Main Street. Featured destinations
include Hubbard Park, City Hall, Broad Street, downtown
locations, and the best-decorated houses in the city.
To participate in this activity, interested residents
must register between December 1st-18th at the office of
