Castle Craig

Everyone is welcome to experience some great views
from atop East Peak. The road from Hubbard Park
leading to the infamous castle / local landmark
is accessible between the hours of 10am - 4:45pm.
However, it will be closed on inclement weather days.

Located at the corner of Coe Avenue and Hamilton Street.
The facility's hours of operation are as follows:

School Days ... 2:00pm - Dusk
Non-School Days ... 10:00am - Dusk

(closed Monday, May 26 - Memorial Day)

Indoor Swim Program

This is the final month in the 2002-2003 program whereby
Maloney High School's pool will be open for public swim:

Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 12:00-3:45pm

(closed Memorial Day weekend 5/24-26)

Daily updates are availabe on the Parks and Recreation
Department Activity Phone Line (203) 630-4279.
You must possess a valid 2003 tag - cost is $1.00 for
children ages 17 and under and $5.00 for adults.
Potential recipients must come in-person and bring
proof of Meriden residency to receive a pass at the
Meriden Parks and Recreation, 460 Liberty St, 630-4259

Quinnipiac River Clean-up

Volunteers are crucial to the success of this event.
Anyone who wants to help out from 9am to 2pm today
may also get to meet new people as well as serve
the Meriden community. Supplies such as gloves
and bags are provided - participants even get a
free T-shirt; and after the clean-up, there will
be food and beverage --- free! For info, call

Archeology History In Meriden

The Meriden Land Trust and the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center
will present State Archeologist Nicholas Bellantoni in a
talk about the archeology of the greater Meriden area,
including the history of the Meriden Boy's cemetery.
This event begins at 7:00pm at the ACCC located at
175 East Main St across City Hall. Admission is free.

Book Signing(s) at the Local Library

The Meriden Public Library is hosting two special appearances by
local tie-in authors ... Rabiecki (at noon) and Gilbert (at 7:00pm):

Meriden born author Nicholas Rabiecki, Jr. will speak at a literary
lunchbox at the local library. Rabiecki will autograph copies of
'Growing Up Before Television, Malls and Toys 'R Us', which
documents memories of growing up in a small factory town
during the Depression, as a first generation child with
Russian speaking parents.

Meriden author Lois Gilbert is the author of 'Emergency Cookbook:
What To Do With Too Little Time And Almost No Food'.

The programs are free and the public is invited to attend
and bring a bag lunch. Hot beverages will be served.

2003 Hershey Track and Field Competition

The City of Meriden, the Meriden Boys and Girls Club,
and the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association
invite children ages 9-14 to participate in the local
competition. The event is held at the Platt High track.
Registration is from 9:45-10:15am, while the action is
set to begin at 10:30am. All participants will receive
certificates and refreshments. Event winners qualify
for the state championship set for this coming June!

Meriden Public Library continues its four-part book discussion
series toaday at 12 noon. The series is sponsored by Time for
Ideas in Libraries, a program of the Connecticut Humanities Council
and co-sponsored locally by the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, Inc.
The series is free and the public is invited to attend:

2003 Meriden Memorial Day Parade

The City of Meriden and the Meriden United Veterans Council
present this special event beginning at 10:30am from the
Washington Park, proceeding toward City Hall via Liberty,
Cottage, and East Main streets. There will be a brief
ceremony at City Hall following the parade. Individuals
or groups wishing to march in the parade are asked to call

Meriden Raiders Registration

The first registration session for the Meriden Raiders
Junior Football and Cheerleading 2003 season will take
place at the Washington Park's Pete Sini Fieldhouse
(rear of park) from 5:00 - 7:00pm; cost is $75.00.
Registration sessions also take place in June + July.
Participants must be 7 years old on or before 8/1/03
and weigh at least 45lbs. No older than 15 years of
age 8/1/03 and weigh no more than 125lbs. Please
bring an original wallet sized birth certificate,
an original medical consent (dated after 1/1/03)
that is signed by doctor, student's original 2002-2003
report card, and parent or legal guardian consent.
Football players 'must' be present at sign ups!
