Indoor Public Swim
The 1999-2000 Indoor Public Swim Program at Maloney High continues!
Interested participants must possess a valid 2000 pool tag which
is available at the Parks and Recreation Department office.
The pool's weekly schedule is as follows: (ends June 4)
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays ... 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays ... 12:00-3:45pm
(Pool is unavailable Tuesdays and Fridays)
There will be no public swimming available on school holidays,
unless otherwise noted. Daily updates can be found on the
Parks and Recreation Department Activity Line (203) 630-4279.

30th Annual Special Day for Special People
The Meriden Senior Center presents this special event
from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Hubbard Park. Senior citizens'
free picnic features food, activities, music and bingo.

Meriden Land Trust
An all-volunteer group consisting of
conservationists, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts
invite you to join them at the City Engineer's office
in city hall as they meet every second Wednesday at 7p.m.
Focusing on protecting the natural habitat of Meriden
including its wetlands, wildlife habitat, trap-rock ridges
trails, farmland, historic, scenic and recreational areas;
collectively, we can all help maintain Meriden's balance
between the rural and urban aspects of the community.

2000 Flag Day Ceremony
The City of Meriden and the Meriden Elks #35 will make
a special presentation at City Hall from 1:00-1:45pm.
Participants in this flag raising ceremony include
Meriden state and local politicians, city honor guards,
and essay winners from local public/parochial schools.
A reception will be held at the Meriden Elks #35
(120 East Main St) immediately following the event.

Summer Sounds 2000 Concert Series
The musical entertainment kicks off today ...
but continues on through the following weeks!
Cheryl Cormier performs from 7-8:30pm on the 14th;
while other June concerts include: Sean, Kelley,
and Wayne from 7-8:30pm on the 20th; plus
Nightwind from 7-8:30pm on Wednesday the 28th.
All shows take place in the James J. Barry Bandshell
at Hubbard Park - refreshments will be available.

2000 Meriden Black Expo
This festival takes place at Hubbard Park from 12-8pm
and features African-American food, crafts, music and
entertainment. Rain date, if necessary, is Sunday the 18th!

2000 Meriden Fishing Derby
The Meriden Rod and Gun Club invites youths ages 15 and younger
to participate in this special derby! This year's event is at
Baldwin Pond from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Fish, food and prizes, too!

Low Cost Rabies Clinic
The City of Meriden, Department of Health, is sponsoring
a Rabies Clinic for cats and dogs at the Hubbard Park
Maintenance Garage from 1-3pm (no exceptions)!
Cost for the service is $10.00 cash only; however,
pet owners are permitted one FREE vaccination
with a valid State Public Assistance ID card.
All dogs must be on leashes - muzzles are
recommended for aggressive dogs;
while cats must be in carriers or on a leash.
Written proof of prior vaccination is required
in order to get a 3-year rabies certificate.

'Fight Night' at Ceppa Field
The Silver City Boxing Club presents a night of boxing
at Ceppa Field beginning at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10.00
for adults and $5.00 for children ages 14 and under.
In case of rain, the event will be held in the
Platt High School gym. Call SCBC at 686-1639 for info.

2000 Outdoor Public Swim Program
It's that time of year again!!!
You must have a valid 2000 swim tag
available at the Parks and Rec office.
Pool's daily schedule is as follows:
12:00-5:30pm ..... Open Swim
5:45-6:45pm ..... Family Swim
6:45-7:45pm ..... Adult Swim

June 19th through the 23rd, 2000
2nd Annual Giuffrida Park Nature Camp
Children ages 5 - 16 are invited :)
The camp introduces youngsters to basic outdoor skills as
fishing, canoeing, hiking, camping and wildlife identification.
Additionally, campers will partake in a special field trip to
the Mystic Marine Life Aquarium. Session #2 will be 8/14-8/18/00.

2000 Summer Fun Runs
These free runs at the Platt High School track get underway
at 6:30pm and feature a 3/4 mile race for children and a
5k race for adults. Refreshments and prizes are available.

Meriden Raiders Jr. Football & Cheerleading
The next games may not start until Labor Day weekend,
but the 2000 season sign-up period is now upon us!
Children 7 years old on or before August 1, 2000
(can not be older than 15 that same date)
and weighing at least 45 lbs but less than 155 lbs
may register from 9am-1pm at the Pete Sini Field House
located at Washington Park on Liberty Street.
Bring your birth certificate, current report card,
a physical report dated after January 1, 2000
and a parent or legal guardian consent form.
A $75.00 fee includes the year end banquet!
Cheerleaders ages 8-15 are welcome - $65.00 fee.

Swim Lessons
Children ages 4 and older can learn how to swim for free!
Registrations will be held at the Hubbard Park pool at
10am on Friday the 23rd (and Saturday, July 8 for 7/10-21st).
Valid 2000 pool pass, bathing suit and towel needed to register.

2000 Summer Playground Program
Operating at Washington Park, Ceppa Field and Habershon Park,
children ages 6-14 are invited to experience fun-filled days
of games, activities, crafts, and yes, even field trips!
The playgrounds are open 8:30am - 3:00pm. There's no cost
(except for field trips). Register only at playground sites.
