Outdoor Public Swim Program

The Hubbard Park pool's daily schedule is as follows:

12:00 - 6:30PM === Open Swim
6:45 - 7:45PM === Adult Swim


All interested participants must possess a valid 2003 pool pass.
Passess cost $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 17 and under.
To receive a pass, you must arrive in-person and bring proof of
Meriden residency, along with appropriate payment(s) to our office:

Castle Craig

Everyone is welcome to experience some great views
from atop East Peak. The road from Hubbard Park
leading to the infamous castle / local landmark
is accessible between the hours of 10am - 4:45pm.
However, it will be closed on inclement weather days.

Summer Playground Program

Locations: Ceppa Field, Habershon Park AND Baldwin Pond.
Children ages 6-13 are invited to experience fun-filled
days of games, activities, crafts, and field trips.
The playgrounds are open from 8:30AM - 3:00PM.
There is no cost except for field trips. Interested
participants can register at the 3 sites when in session.

2003 Summer Fun Runs

The free runs get underway starting 6:30pm at the Platt High School track
and feature a 3/4 mile race for children and a 5k race for adults.

Independence Day Fireworks Display

The City of Meriden's 2003 spectacular takes place at
Hubbard Park in conjunction with the Summer Sounds 2003
Concert Series. The festivities get underway starting at
5:30pm with entertainment from Glamour Girls performing
music from the 50's, 60's, and the 70's pop; then
Soul Sound Revue takes over the bandshell at 7:15pm
providing musical sounds through the 9:00pm fireworks!
(rain date is planned for July 4th, if necessary)

Puerto Rican Cultural Festival

Meriden's 36th annual celebration features
food, fun and music and takes place at the
Hubbard Park Band Shell from 1:00 - 8:00pm!
(rain date: Sunday, July 13th)

There will also be a special dedication to
the members of the U.S. Army/Military Forces.
Prior to the celebrations, a special 9:00AM
prayer mass honoring those who passed-away
while serving in the War of Iraq will be held
at St. Rose Church on Center Street in Meriden.

MC's Magic Circus

Show-time is 2pm at the Meriden Public Library's Rotary
Satellite Branch located at the Boys and Girls Club in Meriden.
Variety artist Marlene Clark will present fun ventriloquism
and magic show where some lucky boys and girls will help
make the magic happen. The audience will also meet some of
MC's puppet friends. The program is free and open to the

Folksinger Dave Fry will present 'Just Imagine' at Meriden
Public Library's John Barry Satellite Branch at 11:00AM.
The performance mixes folk and rock and roll, spontaneous
songwriting, storytelling, and audience participation.
Dave includes acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and
an occasioinal banjo as well as unaccompanied singing.

Meet your host / entertainer Irv Plastock at Meriden Public
Library's Hanover Satellite Branch beginning at 11:00AM, today.
Children, ages 3 to 6 and their parents are welcome to attend
and sing along, with Irv, tunes such as If You're Happy and You
Know It Clap Your Hands, Eensy, Weensy, Spider, Three Blind Mice,
This Old Man, any many other favorites that children love.
Irv is an accomplished artist who has been singing and performing
for audiences for over 40 years. At the age of 8, he made his
debut playing the role of Frank in 'Annie Get Your Gun.'

Medieval Festival

The place to step back-in-time is Hubbard Park starting
at 5PM tonight. A production of Shakespeare's '12th Knight'
will be perfomed by the New England Shakespeare Company
at the park's band shell. During the intermission period of
this 2 act show, members of the audience may par-take in
a pie eating contest. Also, the Y.M.C.A. shall be offering
food for purchase as part of their 'King Henry Feast.'

Then, at 8:30pm, everyone can continue to enjoy their free
attendance pass (meaning you pay nothing for the entertainment)
and watch a big screen showing of the popular movie 'Shrek'!

Licensed wildlife rehabilitator Geraldine Griswold, A.K.A.
The Bat Lady, will present a bat demonstration at Meriden
Public Library's Rotary Satellite Branch at the Boys and Girls
Club at 2:00pm. People of all ages are invited to freely attend.
You'll learn, up-close, the benefits and good of the mammal.
