Castle Craig
October is the last month Castle Craig will be open in 2000.
If you enjoy the fall foliage, you should not miss the colorful
panoramic views to be found atop its East Peak location!
The castle is open daily from 10:00am - 4:45pm,
weather permitting, through October 31st.

2000-2001 Indoor Swim Program
You're welcome to maintain your swimming exercise at
the Maloney High School indoor pool on Gravel Street.
Interested participants must possess a valid 2000 pool tag,
which can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation office.
The pool's weekly schedule will be as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays ... 6:30 - 7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays ... 12:00n - 3:45pm
There is no public swim on school holidays or snow days,
unless otherwise noted. Daily updates can be found on the
Parks and Recreation Department Activity Line (203) 630-4279.

2000-2001 Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program
Organized recreational volleyball games for adults
ages 18 and older takes place every Tuesday night
at Lincoln Middle School from 6:00 - 9:00pm!
(Program will not run school holidays or snow days)
One-time $20.00 registration fee payable at game or

Halloween House Decorating Contest
Meriden homes are invited to enter this 3rd Annual challenge!
Phone entries are accepted at the Parks and Recreation office.
Judging takes place on October 26. Prizes will be awarded
to the top three entries in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Scariest Entry' and 'Best Overall'.
Only outdoor entries considered. To enter, please call

Trailblazer Hiking Program
Care to explore some of Meriden's most scenic areas?
There are four exciting hikes and one surprise event this month!

10/5 Giuffrida Park (parking lot) 4:00pm
10/9 Hubbard Park (pool parking lot) 10:00am
10/12 North Meriden (end of Sam's Road) 4:00pm
10/19 Quin. River Gorge (Dossin Beach lot) 4:00pm
The mystery event takes place on the 26th. Participants
will be informed of the meeting site/time at the 4 hikes.
All hikes last approximately 1.5-2 hours.
Hiking boots or other comfortable footwear suggested.

Team registrations for the 2000-2001 MMBL are now accepted!
The entrance fee is $450.00 per team. Games will begin in
late November and run through March. The league is open to
Meriden residents and Meriden business employees.

Autumn Fest 2000
the place: Hubbard Park; the time: 1-4pm!
This fun-filled day of family entertainment includes
hayrides, music, a magic show, children's games,
a jack-o-lantern contest, refreshments and lots of
fall foliage. Rain date, if necessary, is Oct 22nd.

The Meriden Lions Club presents their 2nd annual
event at Washington Park starting at 12 noon!
Children ages 9-16 may compete in the derby.

With this 10th annual event, Meriden will join thousands
of municipalities across the nation in celebrating the
spirit of volunteerism by conducting a citywide
beautification effort and assistance drive!

Halloween at City Hall
Want to get an early start to trick-or-treating this year?
For the 3rd year in a row, City Hall departments will be
distributing candy to costumed children from 3:00-5:00pm!
Special bags will be available at the Meriden Public Library.
Refreshments and other 'surprises' are found in Council Chambers.
