This is the final month to visit the castle in 2002.
You're welcome to explore, discover and conquer
the scenic views of the Silver City and surrounding
communities from atop Meriden's icon / landmark.

This is the last month to utilize the new facility for 2002.
Weather permitting, the Coe Ave facility's new schedule is ...
On school days: 2:00pm - dusk; non-school days: 10:00am - dusk.
For safety, please bring and wear your helmet and pads.

2002-2003 Indoor Swim Program

Maloney High School's pool will be open for public swim:

Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 12:00-3:45pm

(closed holidays / snow days unless otherwise noted)

Daily updates are availabe on the Parks and Recreation
Department Activity Phone Line (203) 630-4279.
You must possess a valid 2002 tag - cost is $1.00 for
children ages 17 and under and $5.00 for adults.
Potential recipients must come in-person and bring
proof of Meriden residency to receive a pass at the

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18 and
older take place at Lincoln Middle School from 6:00 - 9:00PM.
The program runs from October 1st - April 8th, except on
school holidays and snow days. A one-time $20.00
registration fee can be paid at the program or the

Trailblazer Hiking Program

Care to explore some of Meriden's most scenic areas?
Come discover some of the city's lesser-known paths.
Your 4:00pm conquering dates and sites include:

              10/17      Quinnipiac River Gorge (Dossin Beach parking lot)
              10/24      Hubbard Park (pool parking lot)

All hikes will last approximately 1.5 - 2.0 hours.
Hiking boots or other comfortable footwear is strongly suggested.

Halloween House Decorating Contest

Meriden homes are invited to enter the
5th Annual Halloween House Decorating Contest,
which is being co-sponsored by The People's Press.
Judging will take place on October 28th.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Scariest Entry', and 'Best Overall'.
Only outdoor entries will be considered. There are over
$600.00 worth of prizes to hand out, so enter your house today.
Phone entries will be accepted until October 25 at the

Hispanic Heritage Month

The Meriden Hispanic Foundation will celebrate Hispanic
Heritage Month with a Fiesta Dinner at Hanover School
from 5:00-8:00PM. A traditional Puerto Rican dinner
and a variety of Caribbean desserts will be offered
in addition to cultural exhibits and entertainment.
Tickets are $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for children
ages 10 and under, and can be purchased at
Hair Affair (103 West Main Street) or at the door.

Meriden Men's Basketball League

Team registrations for the 2002-2003 season are now accepted.
Games actually begin in December and run through next March.
Games will be played on weekday nights and the Meriden YMCA,
Washington Middle School and Lincoln Middle School.

Autumn Fest 2002

Let's get-together and meet at Hubbard Park from 1:00-4:00PM
for a fun-filled day of family entertainment which includes:

                 1:00 - 4:00PM     Hayrides
                 1:00 - 4:00PM     Dream interpretations
                 1:00 - 1:30PM     Magic Show
                 1:00 - 3:00PM     Face painting
                 1:30 - 3:30PM     Penny children's games
                 2:00 - 3:00PM     Juggling show / workshop
                 2:00 - 4:00PM     Balloon animals / figures
                 3:00PM            Jack-o-lantern contest judging
                 3:00 - 4:00PM     Drum circle

The event is free to the public, with refreshments
available for the duration of the festival. Also enjoy
music and fall foliage. Rain date Sunday, October 27th.
