2000-2001 Festival of Silver Lights

You're welcome to cruise around the Hubbard Park roadway
and appreciate the special display of lit designs including
birds, animals, mammals, snowman, snowflakes and buildings.
Vehicular traffic, only, allowed throughout the evenings.

2000-2001 Indoor Swim Program

You're welcome to maintain your swimming exercise at
the Maloney High School indoor pool on Gravel Street.
Interested participants must possess a valid 2000 pool tag,
which can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation office.
(2001 tags may be purchased beginning December 4th
and will be valid through December 31, 2001.
Cost $5.00 for adults, children 17 and under $1.00
Proof of Meriden residency required for purchase.)

The pool's weekly schedule will be as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays ... 6:30 - 7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays ... 12:00n - 3:45pm


Public swim will not be held on the following dates:
December 23rd, 24th, 25th, 30th, 31st and January 1
The pool WILL BE OPEN during Christmas vacation week:
December 26th - 29th from 1:00 - 3:45 PM
The normal schedule resumes January 3rd.

There is no public swim on school holidays or snow days,
unless otherwise noted. Daily updates can be found on the

2000-2001 Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults
ages 18 and older takes place every Tuesday night
at Lincoln Middle School from 6:00 - 9:00pm!
(Program will not run school holidays or snow days)
One-time $20.00 registration fee payable at game or

Freely watch Meriden resident teams (18 and older) compete on area courts:

Mondays and Tuesdays @ Washington Middle School, 1225 North Broad Street
Wednesdays and Thursdays @ Y.M.C.A., 110 West Main Street, Meriden

All games are at 7:00 and 8:00 PM
(no competition Dec 25th and 26th)

3rd Annual Christmas In Our Hometown

Meriden's downtown Christmas tree will be lit as part of a
special hometown celebration beginning at 6:00PM at the
Midtown Plaza (across the police station / court house).
Come listen to Castle Craig Players community caroling.
Refreshments and special surprises for children offered.

2nd Annual Christmas In the Village

The celebration takes place from 3:00-6:30pm at Main Street
in South Meriden. Featured activities include carriage rides,
entertainment, a living Nativity, refreshments, a bonfire, and
a special tree lighting ceremony at the village's Memorial Park.
The event is free but those planning to attend are asked to
bring a canned food item for local families in need.

Santa Letters

Santa Claus will once again be responding to Christmas letters this year!
Children ages 1-12 are invited to send their wish lists and Christmas
letters through the United States Postal Service mail system or bring
them to the USPS Colony Street office OR Parks and Rec Department office.
All letters should be addressed to 'Santa Claus, North Pole' and include
the child's full name and address. Postage is not required.

Holiday House Decorating Contest

Local residents are encouraged to enter their homes in this
seasonal challenge. Simply call the Parks and Recreation Department
office at 630-4259 with the address and phone number of their house
to enter the contest. Judging will take place on December 20th!
Prizes are awarded to the top three entries in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Most Traditional', and 'Best Display of Holiday Spirit'.
A special award will be given to the Meriden neighborhood that best
exemplifies the holiday spirit. Winning entries will incorporated
into the 'Silver Lights' Bus Tour scheduled on December 21st.

13th Annual Christmas In the Park

The celebration takes place from 12:00N - 4:00PM at Hubbard Park.
Featured activities include musical entertainment by Meriden school,
church and community groups, a visit from Santa and other holiday
characters, sleigh and wagon rides, the Y.M.C.A. arts and crafts tents,
a holiday bazaar, ice sculpting, a sled dog demonstration by the
CT Valley Siberian Husky Club, and other holiday entertainment.
The event is free to the public - refreshments will be available.

3rd Annual Silver Lights Bus Tour

Don't miss this exciting opportunity to view the very best
Meriden has offer in Christmas lights and decorations!
Guided bus tours of the city's top holiday attractions will leave the
Meriden Senior Center on West Main Street. Featured destinations include
Hubbard Park, City Hall, Broad Street, downtown locations, and the
2000 Holiday House Decorating Contest winners and runner-ups.
Refreshments will be availabe at the Meriden Senior Center.
