Indoor Swim Program

The 2001 - 2002 Public Swim Program meets at
the Maloney High School pool for your benefit:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 6:30 - 7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays from 12 Noon - 3:45pm

However, this month the pool will be closed on:

December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1

There will be no public swim on school holidays
or snow days, unless otherwise noted.

You CAN swim during the Christmas vacation week:
December 26th - 30th from 12:00-3:45pm

All interested participants must possess a valid tag,
($1 for children 17 and under, and $5 for adults),

Tuesdays, December 2001 - April 9, 2002

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults
ages 18 and older take place every Tuesday night
at Lincoln Middle School from 6:00-9:00PM.
(Program doesn't run school holidays or snow days)
All paid participants will receive t-shirts.
A one-time $25.00 registration fee can be paid
at the program or at the department office of

Holiday House Decorating Contest

You're encouraged to have your home compete this year.
Judging takes place December 17th. Prizes will be
awarded for: 'Most Creative', 'Most Traditional',
and the 'Best Display of Holiday Spirit'.
Winning entries become part of the Silver Lights
Bus Tour on December 19th. Meriden residents must
simply submit their house address and phone number to

Santa Letters

Santa Claus will once again be responding to Christmas
letters this year! Children ages 1-12 are invited to
send their wish lists and Christmas letters through
the United States Postal Service mail system or bring
them to the Parks and Recreation Department office.
To ensure a timely response, children are asked to
forward letters no later than December 19th. All
letters should be addressed to 'Santa Claus, North Pole'
and include the child's full name and address postage free.

Christmas In Our Hometown

Come see Meriden's downtown Christmas tree get lit 6:00pm
at the Midtown Plaza (West Main St. across Police Dept).
This annual event features entertainment by the
Castle Craig Players, community caroling,
refreshments and children surprises!

Saturday, December 8, 2001

Christmas In The Village

The 3rd annual celebration takes place from
2:00-5:30pm at Main Street in South Meriden.
Featured activities include carriage rides,
entertainment, a living Nativity, a bonfire,
refreshments and a special lighting ceremony
in the Village's Memorial Park. The event
is free but those planning to attend are
asked to bring a canned food item for
local families that are in need.

14th Annual Christmas In The Park

The seasonal celebration is from 12:00-3:00pm at Hubbard Park.
Featured activities include musical entertainment by the
Meriden school groups, a visit from Santa and other
holiday characters, sleigh and wagon rides,
the YMCA arts and crafts tent, ice sculpting,
sled dog demonstrations by the CT Valley Siberian Husky Club,
and other holiday entertainment ... all free to the public.

2001 Silver Lights Bus Tour

Don't miss an exciting opportunity to view the very best
Meriden has to offer in Christmas lights and decorations.
A guided bus tour of the city's top holiday attractions
will leave the Meriden Senior Center on West Main Street.
Featured destinations include Hubbard Park, City Hall,
Broad Street, downtown locations, and the 4th Annual
Holiday House Decorating Contest winners. Refreshments
will be available at the Meriden Senior Center. Residents
must register between Dec 3-17 to participate; please call:
