Festival of Silver Lights

You're welcome to cruise around Hubbard Park at any hour
to enjoy this special feature through January 5, 2003.
Yes, the display is lit 24 hours a day throughout this month,
and the park proper is open 24 hours daily as well!
There are 28 new figures this year, boosting the total
number to over 230. New figures include snowflakes,
squirrels, daffodils, deer, and the replica downtown
traffic tower. Total number of lights is over 400,000.

2002-2003 Indoor Swim Program

Maloney High School's pool will be open for public swim:

Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 12:00-3:45pm

(closed holidays / snow days unless otherwise noted)

Notice:The pool will be OPEN ...

Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program

Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18 and
older take place at Lincoln Middle School from 6:00 - 9:00PM.
The program runs through April 8, 2003, except on
school holidays and snow days. A one-time $20.00
registration fee can be paid at the program or the

Local residents are encouraged to participate!
Judging takes place on December 17th. Prizes
will be awarded in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Most Traditional',
'Best Display of Electricity', 'Best Display of Figures',
'Best Display of Holiday Spirit', 'Judges' Choice'.
Winning entries will be incorporated into the
Silver Lights Bus Tour on December 18th.

Santa Letters

Santa Claus is again responding to Christmas letters this year!
Children ages 1-12 are invited to send their wish lists and
letters through the United States Postal Service mail system
or bring them to the Parks and Recreation office. To ensure
a response by Christmas, children are asked to forward letters
no later than December 19th. All letters should be addressed
to 'Santa Claus, North Pole' and include the child's
full name and address. Postage is not required.

4th Annual Christmas In The Village

Enjoy yourself at Main Street, South Meriden from 2:00-5:30PM.
Featured activities at this free event include wagon rides,
singing, a bonfire, a parade and entertainment. Special events
can also be found at Hanover School, South Meriden Trinity
United Methodist Church and New Life Church. Refreshments, too!

15th Annual Christmas In The Park

Hubbard Park is the place to be from 5:00 - 8:30PM!
Featured activities include musical entertainment by
local school groups, a visit from Santa and other
holiday characters, wagon rides, an arts and crafts
tent, ice sculpting, sled dog demonstrations, and
the noted 'Festival of Silver Lights' on display.
The event is free to the public; refreshments available.

Pictures With Santa

The Meriden Human Service Student Association
invites children to have their picture taken with Santa
at the Middlesex Community College campus located on
500 South Broad Street (across Townline Plaza).
This event benefits the NOW Shelter of Meriden
for the holiday season. One toiletry per child
gets them their picture and a chance to make
their own frame to keep their picture in.
Refreshments will be served. For more info,

2002 Silver Lights Bus Tour

Don't miss an exciting opportunity to view the very best
Meriden has to offer in Christmas lights and decorations.
A guided bus tour of the city's top holiday attractions
will leave the Meriden Senior Center on West Main Street
at 6:30PM sharp. Featured destinations include Hubbard Park,
City Hall, Broad Street, downtown locations and the best-
decorated houses in the city. To participate, interested
residents must register by December 17th by contacting:

Lifeguard Training

The City of Meriden Recreation Division is offering a
Lifeguard Training Class on Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday nights from January 6th - January 23rd;
it takes place from 6:00-9:30pm at the Parks and Recreation
office and Maloney High School. The cost is $195.00, and
persons must be at least fifteen years of age by January 23rd
to be eligible. Individuals completing this course will receive
the Lifeguard Training, Community First Aid and Safety
and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications.
If you are interested in participating, you must register at
