Castle Craig
Everyone is welcome to experience some great views
from atop East Peak. The road from Hubbard Park
leading to the infamous castle / local landmark
is accessible between the hours of 10am - 4:45pm.
However, it will be closed on inclement weather days.

Summer Activities Information
Registration for the three Meriden Nature Camp sessions
is currently taking place. This program has extremely
limited openings, so please register soon if you wish
to join us for a week in the 'great outdoors.' Application
forms for the Silver City Fundamental Football Camp, the
Hot Shot Basketball Camp, and the Dig This! Volleyball Camp

Tennis Lessons For Beginners
USPTR certified instructor Karen Whiting will be focusing on
strokes, balance, footwork, and the scoring system from
July 7th - 11th at the Washington Park Courts on
Liberty Street in Meriden, CT. Youngsters
ages 7-10 will be taught from 1-2PM,
ages 11-14 have the courts 2-3PM.
Lesson fee is $25.00

Outdoor Exploration Program - Fun With Fishing
Want to explore the exciting world of fishing? This program
is designed for challenged individuals ages 6 to 15, focusing
on those with autism. It will allow participants to fish in a
relaxed manner at Hubbard Park's Mirror Lake. Other outdoor
skills may be covered as well. The program will meet on Monday
nights from 6:30-7:30pm from July 7th - August 4th. Mentors
will be provided, and parents and siblings are strongly encouraged
to attend the program as well. There is a $20.00 processing fee
for each child. Please register soon as there are only eight

Women and Victorian Culture Book Discussion
Meriden Public Library continues its four-part book discussion
series today at 12 noon. The series is sponsored by Time for
Ideas in Libraries, a program of the Connecticut Humanities Council
and co-sponsored locally by the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, Inc.
The series is free and the public is invited to attend at the Center.

33rd Annual Special Day For Special People
The Meriden Senior Center will present this special event
from 11:00AM-3:00PM at Hubbard Park. Senior citizens
ages 60 and older are invited to this free picnic featuring
food, activities, bingo, and entertainment. Have fun!

Duck Race and Fishing Derby
This is the Meriden Lions Club 10th annual event; and as in the past,
the place to be at is Brookside Park (Broad St and Bunker Ave).
Children up to 12 years of age may register at 8:00AM for the
fishing derby which is held from 9:00AM to 12noon, today!.
Over 100 trout have been placed into the brook for the catching,
and there are also several other prizes to win in many categories.
Then, at 3:00PM, everyone can watch their favorite rubber duck
race down the brook to the infamous gated finish line! You may
purchase a ticket representing your duckster until race time.
Collected proceeds will be donated to local charitable efforts.
Food, refreshments, and more valuable prizes are offered on site.

Literary Lunchbox
Meriden Public Library rescheduled its Literary Lunchbox to
12 noon, today. Frank Abate, author of Connecticut Trivia,
(2001, Rutledge Hill Press) will be the guest speaker.
Everyone is welcome to attend. The author will autograph
copies of his book after the presentation.
The program, which is free, is one in a yearlong series of
special events and exhibits in celebration of the Meriden

The City of Meriden and Meriden Elks #35 present the
ceremony at City Hall at 1:00PM. Participants in this
flag raising ceremony include local and state politicians,
city honor guards, and school essay contest winners.

Soap Box Derby
For the past few weeks, these youngsters have been learning
some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition
and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun!
Now you have the opportunity to cheer them on as they display
their pride and joy while racing to the ultimate goal - the finish line.
The winner may then compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby
in Ohio scheduled for next month. Join them at 8:00AM today
at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center (corner E Main/Pleasant)
where they will proceed to Hubbard Park in a parade formation.
The actual race then begins at 9:00AM at the park's rear roadway.

Summer Sounds 2003 Concert Series
update: performances called-off
Due to inclement weather, Critelli's performance will be
rescheduled to a later date - no reschedule for Party Line.
Tonight is (was going to be) the kick off for this seasonal entertainment
at Hubbard Park. Acoustic guitarist Frank Critelli will
take to the Jamaes J. Barry bandshell stage from 6:00-6:45PM
to be followed by the R & B sounds of Party Line from
7:00-8:30PM. The concerts are free to the public.
Refreshments available - bring your lawn chairs/blankets.

Outdoor Public Swim Program
The Hubbard Park pool's daily schedule will be as follows:
12:00 - 6:30PM === Open Swim
6:45 - 7:45PM === Adult Swim
All interested participants must possess a valid 2003 pool pass.
Passess cost $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 17 and under.
To receive a pass, you must arrive in-person and bring proof of

Book Signing at the Local Library
Meriden Public Library will host a special appearance by
Rita M. Ippoliti, author of Falling Into Place at 7:00PM.
Ippoliti autographs copies of her book after the presentation.
A true life story of how a middle-aged, non-athletic woman
decided to become a sky diver, Ippoliti shares her experiences
of training, jumping and the lessons she learned as a result
of her determination. 'Ready, set, GO' ... and enjoy!

Summer Playground Program
Locations: Ceppa Field, Habershon Park AND Baldwin Pond.
Children ages 6-13 are invited to experience fun-filled
days of games, activities, crafts, and field trips.
The playgrounds will be open Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-3:00PM.
There is no cost except for field trips. Interested
participants can register at the 3 sites when in session.

at the Hubbard Park Pool (10:00AM) today and July 12th.
