Silver City Skate-Off
Originally scheduled for August 24th, but postponed because of
inclement weather, the Meriden YMCA and the City of Meriden
present this first ever event at Meriden Skatepark.
Skateboarders ages 8 and older are invited to showcase their
skills for bragging rights as the city's top skaters.
Registration begins at 10:00am with the competition to
follow at 11:00am. Skaters must be at least 8 years of age,
sign a waiver (a parental signature is required if under 18)
and pay a $3.00 entry fee. Skaters will have a 2 minute
session to display their moves. Trophies will be awarded
to the top skaters in the following brackets:
8-11 years old, 12-15 years old, and age 16+.

Quinnipiac Park Renamed
You're invited to an official ribbon cutting ceremony
at 10:00am whereby Red Bridge will be rededicated and
opened for use by the people of Meriden and general public.
Also, the park south of the bridge and formerly known as
Quinnipiac Park shall be identified as Meriden Lions Club Park;
bridge restoration + funding was handled by their volunteers.

Remembrance Walk, Tribute and Vigil
These special ceremonies begin at 5:30pm tonight.
To participate in the walk, please meet at City Hall.
You will then proceed towards the Fire Department on
Pratt Street and later arrive at the Police Court
Complex in front of the Meriden Police Department.
There will be a brief community tribute and a
candlelight vigil with appropriate music to allow
Meriden to remember and reflect on the events of
September 11, 2001. Please bring your own candles,
banners, flags or other signs of patriotism. A
collection will be undertaken for a 9/11 Memorial Plaque.

9/11 Remembrance Service
On the anniversary of the September 11th attack, several local
churches and the Mayor of Meriden and other community leaders
will attend / speak at a special 7:00pm service. This gathering
shall take place rain or shine at the Hubbard Park band shell.
Bring your own lawn chairs and/or blankets. For info, call

Public Safety Day
Sponsored by Meriden's Police and Fire Departments,
Hunter's Ambulance Service and Police on Patrol Days,
you're welcomed to join in the special ceremony which
is dedicated to the Police, Fire and EMS personnel
who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
The 9:00am - 3:00pm display and demonstrations take place
at the Police Court Complex on West Main Street and
include a fire engine, safe house, children fingerprinting,
a DARE booth, car seat safety checks and a PD HQ tour.

2002 NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Challenge
The Meriden YMCA and the City of Meriden invite youths
ages 8-15 to test (for free) their football skills at
the local Meriden competition held at Ceppa Field.
Registration/warm-ups are from 10:00-10:15am with
the competition beginning at 10:30am. Participants
must bring a copy of their birth certificate, have a
parent/guardian complete a permission form, and wear
sneakers to be eligible for advancement. Participants
receive certificates and winners advance to the state
championship in October ... possibly even to the
regional championship at a Patriots game in November!

Maloney High School's pool will be open for public swim
Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 12:00-3:45pm

Football Fun(damentals)
Boys ages 8-13 are invited to this 5 week, non-contact
program designed to teach such skills as passing, receiving,
running and blocking. Sessions are held at Washington Park
from 4:00-5:00pm. The cost is $5.00 - space is extremely

2002 Rotary Hoopin'-It-Up
Basketball players of all ages and abilities are welcome
to compete in this 9am-2pm, 3-on-3 tournament held on
Colony Street. Teams must have at least 3 members and
can have as many as 4 members. All entrants receive
shirts and winners receive trophies. This event is
held in conjunction with Meriden's Festival on Main.
Team registrations must be entered at Boys & Girls Club,
YMCA, or Parks and Rec office by 6pm on Thursday 9/19.
One team member is required to attend an info session
on Friday the 20th from 6-8pm at 15 Lincoln Street.
