Indoor Public Swim
The 1999-2000 Indoor Public Swim Program at Maloney High has begun!
Interested participants must possess a valid 1999 pool tag which
are available at the Parks and Recreation Department office.
The pool's weekly schedule will be as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays ... 6:30-7:45pm
Saturdays and Sundays ... 12:00-3:45pm
(Pool is unavailable Tuesdays and Fridays)
There will be no public swim on school holidays nor snow days,
unless otherwise noted. Daily updates can be found on the
Parks and Recreation Department Activity Line (203) 630-4279.

Solomon's House In The Woods
Bernice Schenk Shelberg, Curator of Meriden's Living History Museum -
The 1711 Solomon Goffe House, shall be present for a book signing and
sale of her new local historian publication depicting the story of
Meriden, CT starting with the Indians in the 1600, the Dutch fur traders
and the first people who lived in our town. You're welcome to stop by at
677 North Colony Road, Meriden Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30pm.
October 4 - 25, 1999
Halloween House Decorating Contest
Meriden homes are invited to enter the
2nd Annual Halloween House Decorating Contest.
Phone entries are accepted at the Parks and Recreation Department
office (630-4259) from the 4th through the 25th of this month!
Judging takes place on October 26th and 27th. Prizes will be
awarded to the top three entries in the following categories:
'Most Creative', 'Most Scarey' and 'Best Overall'.
Only outdoor entries will be considered.

October 5, 1999 - April 11, 2000
Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Program
Organized recreational volleyball games for adults ages 18 and older
will take place every Tuesday night at Lincoln Middle School from 6-9pm.
The program will not run, however, on school holidays and snow days!
A one-time $20.00 registration fee can be paid at the program or at

Trailblazer Hiking Program
Care to explore some of the area's finest ridge lines
and see Meriden's most scenic views?
There are 4 exciting hikes this month:

10/14 Beseck Mtn. (Black Pond parking lot) 4:00PM
10/21 Mt. Higby (end of Old Preston Ave) 4:00PM
10/28 Giuffrida Park (parking lot) 4:00PM
All hikes will last approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.
Hiking boots or other comfortable footwear suggested!

October 12 - November 17, 1999
Meriden Men's Basketball League
Team registrations for the 1999-2000 Meriden Men's Basketball League
will be accepted from the 12th of October through the 17th of November.
The entrance fee is $450.00 per team. Games begin on November 29th and
run through early March! Meriden residents/businesses welcomed to join.

Meriden Soap Box Derby
The Soap Box Derby returns to Meriden for the first time in 50 years!
At 12 noon on the 17th, children ages 8-16 will have the opportunity
to compete in this exciting event. The day will include food, fun and
activities for the whole family. For more information on this event,
please call the Impact Arts Events Grout at (203) 686-1700.

Autumn Fest '99
Go to Hubbard Park from 1-4pm and enjoy family entertainment including
hayrides, music, magic shows, facepainting, food, a jack-o-lantern contest
and children's games sponsored by the Meriden YMCA. If needed ...
the rain date for this fun-filled event shall be October 31st!

Halloween at City Hall
Want to get an early start to trick-or-treating this year?
Then come to the 2nd Annual Halloween at Meriden's City Hall.
Department representatives will distribute candy to visiting
costumed trick-or-treaters from 3-5pm on Friday!
Special bags will be available at the Meriden Public Library.
Refreshments + other 'surprises' can be found in the Council Chambers.
